The Other Too Cool for School City

Fans are funny, why go to the front of the crowd if you're only going to stand there and stare. San Francisco does that a lot. I discovered Seattle does this too. What odd ducks we are. This is probably my 5th Wombat show of the year. I still want to jump my ass off during Tokyo. They ended their last show for their US tour with a big finale of Static Jacks and The Postelles on stage jamin'. I'd like to thank the gracious hostess for volunteering her place for the after party. Hope there wasn't too much of a mess to clean up the next morn. xxx

Union Transfer

I read Union Transfer just opened this year. If you haven't had a chance to watch a gig there, I highly recommend it. I'm not sure what this place used to be, the name makes it sound like it may have been an old train station depot. It looks somewhat like a church hall inside. But it's quite magical nonetheless. The place is not heated, so beware if you're watching a gig in the cooler months. But we were here for Friendly Fires, so soon got warm with Ed Mac's hypnotic hip gyrations. He was even right in front of me at one point, as I awkwardly moved out of the way not know what to do. <3

Best Lolla Ever!

It was a searing summer in Chicago this year, interspersed with a torrential downpour out of no where for an hour or so. We ran under this 18 wheeler for shelter along with other till the rain let up. Tweenies we were at this Lolla, I got to meet Harry McVeigh, Ed MacFarlane, Jack Savidge, Edd Gibson. Best Lolla ever... just don't tell anyone I wasn't 16 yrs old.

good old brit pop

ever since pop scene moved their event site to rickshaw stop, sophie and i haven't frequented a pop scene event in awhile. we did however make it to brother and we're glad we did. now, pop scene always attracted a variety of individuals. there were the anglophiles like us, horatio, nyles from frasier and then, dependent on who was on, it can range from folks from san jose, la, etc. i believe now that pop scene is in rickshaw, it's open it's doors to a bigger audience, older. i'm not sure how i feel about it.

pleasantly surprised

ive been to many a gigs in SF. sorry to say, SF audiences suck, i'm one of them too. so this criticism is also about myself, we try to get all the way up front, we're not superfans, we stand with our hands folded and stare stoically at the stage and give whoever that's moshing a hard time.

two shows i attended recently however has made me proud! maybe it's their fan base but for tdcc and cut copy, boy was the crowd hopping. young, old, superfans, newbs, they were all enjoying the gigs. good job sf!

Happy New Year!

Ok. Technically it's not the new year. It's 31 days after the new years, but it is my first gig of the year. Who better to kick off with that Mr. Paul Banks who was sporting a rather cool faux hawk hairdo type like thing.

Sad though, I have no gigs lined up for Feb. A month without one. What am I to do?
