Follo-will- i Caleb

Initially i didn't know what the who-ha was about Kings of Leon. (Same as i still don't get Arcade Fire). My ears first perked up with Charmer. Then it was Sex on Fire- but as good a song as it is, it's a rockstar singing a song with the word "sex", how can i fail to notice? But when i heard "Use Somebody", that's when i wanted to buy the song, so instead of one song, i got the whole album. And you know what? I'm hooked. Kings of Leon, I <3 you- oh and Caleb especially :)

Destroy everything you touch...

.... oops wrong artiste. I don't know why i had Ladytron running through my head while i was watching Cut Copy. Well same genre, although i must rethink on going to gigs on Sunday night, i'm really not as energized knowing i have to head to work the next morn. Anyways, towards the end a cutie was behind me dancing as well. I felt a connection, wait... i think he was of the other persuasion. Maybe that's why we connected!

Evokes images of beautiful summers...

Songs from Stereophonics always transport me to car ads! Well, like i'm in a car ad anyways. "You make me feel like the one...." wind in my hair as we cruise down highway one to Pacifica. "the one...."

I copped a feel of Matt

as he crowd surfed. Copped a feel... not cupped ok! Mind blowingly awesome gig- I think i came out with a bruise as well while moshing. We went so gaga that were were contemplating doing an impromptu road trip down to Spaceland, LA.. but lame old me nixed the idea.

Boo.

Where it's at?

Or rather where is Beck in the pic? Haha... forgot the digital and had to use me iphone. So literally 5 days before we get an email telling us a special secret show by Beck at the Independent! Sale starts 5 pm... ARGHH!!! 5.05 pm sold out. Fortunately magic finger Sophie got 2 tics. If every gig could be like this size, it would be marvelous! Genius at work. Brava! Mr. Beck.

More of the 'bats

Was using A's new super duper pooper digital cam. Got pretty good shots of the Wombats. More can be viewed here http://www.flickr.com/photos/dearlenny .No sign of chub chub Cherub. What happened?

Northern Boys...

don't you just love them? a little blue collar, a little rough about the edges. This was a fabulous gig, why? Coz popscene tonight was a little empty, I know- bad for The Enemy but great for us coz we got front row. My gal pal Sophie chilled out with them a little after and said they even cabbed it home.

Need a lift boys?

Mercury in retrograde!

Woo hoo! Bloc party. Now I only became a fan when they released "A Weekend in the City"- but my gal Sophie hung out with them when they were mere unknowns playing a gig at Bottom of the Hill. Apparently their performance has much improved since 05 but still not quite as polished as one would hear in the studio recordings- being heavy on drum n bass and synths, i'm not complaining. I'm glad they're also experimenting with looping on their new single. Perhaps this would help Kele on the vocals. They were a big tease though having 2 separate encores after the first mandatory one. Pity Gordy was missing.

Tales of Marsupials

Here's Sophie with cutie pie Tord. Hah! The gang stayed back like the superstars they are after the gig to party and mingle. I was on the way home to crawl into bed. These younguns. What can you do.

CORRECTION: Haha- Ms. Sophie corrected me that this is actually Dan and not Tord. Oops. What a fan.

Stand in the place where you live...

When I was young i owned a REM concert T which i loved and lost to an ex boyfriend. It was a slate blue T with a faded question mark on it. Anyone remember? Anyways- I always liked REM. I remember learning the dance steps from the Stand music video- even though it's realy silly now thinking about it. Gosh- how young was I then? Anyways- I had to see Michael Stipe and now i have and i can die happy. He still sounds amazing.

Royal Albert Hall with The Wombats!

The biggest Wombat of them all. I thought Murph called him Thomas- but Sophie says he's Cherub- or was that the tiny Wombat playing the keyboards? :) Royal Albert Hall is a gorgeous place. But, hmmm perhaps not a good rock gig-ing venue? Perhaps it was cause i was at the nosebleed seats. But me and AK enjoyed ourselves- we even got ourselves a little lost on the way there. When we got back to the hotel- we were scrummaging for food and the only thing open was a Kebab place- AK had a lamb donner, Mr. M McG had a slice of pie and I had fried chicken and chips! How London.

Pendulum from Down Under

I'm glad i made it to this gig. I've read that the Astoria is shutting down but some says that it still has a chance. So I'm still unsure. Nonetheless, I was running late for this gig and it was already in full swing as i entered. It was absolutely packed on the floor- I couldn't even get close past the entry to the floor! as a boy walked passed me and smeared my face with sweat. Ick. After that, i thought it might be prudent to go up to the balcony to avoid the fracas.

Coachella Day 3

The last day of coachella was extremely chill. I think by now, we know the lay of the land. We picked up some souvenirs, ate some food, perused the sights. Me accompanied by Miss T went of to see Sia. Now I've missed seeing her live more than once. There were so many opportunities, and now I can see I missed out mucho. She's cute as a bug. She didn't perform Day to Soon which would had made me cry, but she did perform Breathe Me obviously and the waterworks flowed.

Off we went to boogie to the jungle beat of Modeselektor and stayed on for teeny bit of SMD. Then off to join the rest of the world on the other side of the moon. All i can say is, "Piggy come back!"

Coachella Day 2

On day 2, i missed MGMT. How sad, as usual the tent was packed to the brim, I caught the tail end of "Time to Pretend". I really really wanted to see them. I guess i should make sure my wishes are known a little sooner. Since i was there, I stayed on for Kate Nash, who i do like, but i think an open setting was not quite right for her. It was so hot anyways that i stayed under the shaded tent just to cool down. A- brought me some ibuprofen as a precautionary so i could enjoy the rest of the day.

Meanwhile, Miss T staked a spot during Cafe Tacvba and got us a sweet deal when DCFC came on. Is it just me or did Ben Gibbard lose some weight? He was a cutie today but i was disappointed with the set list. I guess in keeping with the rock vibe they made sure most songs were upbeat. Hadn't realized most of my favourite songs were the sad ones. I left A and Miss T at the Coachella stage to get up front and close for Kraftwerk while i wandered of to see Rilo Kiley. I was surprised at the crowd there! but either i missed my favourite song "Smoke Detector" or they didn't perform it. By the time i headed back to Kraftwerk, they were in full swing.

Now i'm not a few Kraftwerk fan. But the rest of the gang was definitely on a high. I tried to elbow my way to the front after to join them but seems like there was a huge crowd for Portishead which was sched-ed right after.

Highlight of day 2 was cutie pie Calvin Harris of course. He was so good! It's been almost a year since i've been wanting to see him in the US. I'm glad he had a fairly good crowd attending as well. I just wished i wore shorts instead of a dress. I couldn't jump up and down that much due my skirts flying about when i jumped. The night ended with me being a little pissy coz I was chasing the rest of the gang around. I guess i wanted to stay for Enter Shikari and was a little upset that i was running around for 1/2 hour instead of spending half an hour at the Mojave tent. They didn't attract much of a crowd though, which must have been hard. :(

Coachella Day 1

One problem in not blogging immediately is that you have a tendency to forget the events of the day. Day 1 at at coachella reminded me why i loved it so much, regardless of the line up for the next three days. In true coachella style- we were late for Black Kids and i managed to catch 1.5 songs perhaps, but at least i caught their hit.

Then we probably spent the next few hours acclimatizing ourselves to the heat, crowd and structures. One item folks probably went crazy for, including me were the Adam Freeland F balloons.

One thing i suppose you can count on is that as the line-up progresses, they get better. This was the first time i've seen The National live but i definitely felt the energy building as i slowly crept between the crowds.

Swell Season definitely attracted a different crowd at coachella. I'm so happy for their success. Glenn takes you on a roller coaster of emotions through his voice. At this point, this was my best show so far. Especially since i got decently close and he sang my favorite Kraftwerk song as a tribute.

I was just going to check out Pendulum to see whether i should catch them on my trip to London. A was waiting behind the F balloon in the tent- thank godness for F balloons which made great landmarks in the Sahara tent and i was able to locate him easily. Pendulum was absolutely fantastically rockin'! The rest of the night for me was spent just wandering around. I suppose i should have joined the rest of the crowd in the Sahara tent when Fat Boy Slim was there, but I guess it just wasn't my thing.

More not so random hotness

Off to a great start for a weekend of fun, sun and music. For Missy Sophie aka Brit Pop Stalker, this is one of 3 that she would be seeing Mr. Ashcroft. I do miss the disheveled locks, but he still has it! Awesome gig.

I'm not sorry...

Now the Pigeon Detectives were amazing. No arguing about that- but i got a little peeved at security letting me know there was to be no photography during the performance. In this day and age, seriously? Boo to Popscene if that was their thing- Double Boo to the Pigeons if that was their doing. Who do they think they are?

Thou Shalt Not Make Reptitive Music

Every word from your mouth

So I lost a bet to A, I thought they were from the UK! and I was wrong. I just wikipedia-ed it and understand now why I thought they were from the UK, "Their music has reached the top ten in the United States and the top five in the United Kingdom".

The Ting Tings & Duke Spirit

So I heard The Ting Tings first on John Kennedy's Exposure and was surprised they we're performing a short stint at the Rickshaw Stop. They we're like the 2nd opening act but i was very excited and they did not disappoint. She was quite amazing. Kudos to Aaron for bringing them here in celebration of the SXSW going on in Austin.

Now the next opener, Duke Spirit wasn't quite my cup of tea. Although I did think she looked very Debbie Harry-esque. Don't you agree?

Editors @ Warfield

I'm still kicking myself for not having a camera on me when i watched them last year at the Fillmore. I was so close that i would have been able to get freakin' great pics. At the warfield, I couldn't even get close to the main stage area. Tom cut his hair- I was hoping to still see it unruly ala "An End Has a Start" vid but still hot.

Saturday, February 2, 2008

Seriously, how could you not love Dave? The night started out pretty miserable. We were at Oakland Arena and it was pouring rain. But once the show got started, you forget your misery. This was one of the most awesome shows i've seen. They rigged a second stage that came floating down from the ceiling and used that as an acoustic stage. Folks who sat in the back much have gotten a treat. The picture right here was when he was walking up and down the aisle. Sigh. Dave. Drool.

Won't You Be My Lesser Delight Star?

According to my chinese horoscope forecast for this coming Chinese New Year, it states, "This year, you come under the influence of the Lesser Delight Star (小耗), which still encourages expenditure. So while you are able to generate more money because of good Wealth Luck, you still have some trouble saving it. The good news is that with prudent financial management, you can minimise your losses."

One promise i made myself take is not to buy a gig ticket if i really didn't want to go. I kinda forgot this in my excitement to go to gigs this new year... must remember not to hit that buy button too spontaneously.

Isn't She So Cute? The way that she is...

Ingrid is adorable- funny as well, although she has to learn how to limit herself a little and share only one story at a time between songs. I was a little tired tonight and was very ready to walk off without watching the encore. Fortunately, Gigi wanted to stay and i was glad we did. She did a beautiful rendition of Elvis' Can't Stop Falling in Love.

Coachella 2008

I started my blog shortly after Coachella 2007. That was my first 3 day festival that i attended and i had a blast. Speculations and fake posters have been flying about while everybody is holding their breath waiting for the official line-up to be posted. Meanwhile- we can all drool over our dream line-up:

2 done!

The picture editorial is not too good in this, I'm not a good photographer- and lighting was bad at my office cubicle. I've done resolution #1 which was signing up for an introductory Pilates package. First class was ok, I'll give you updates as i go along. Resolution #4 is simply marvelous! I made Blueberry/Apricot/Thyme cupcakes w/ Cream Cheese frosting. I modified it somewhat with canned Apricots instead of the required Peaches but the Blueberries were fresh (thanks to BFF Rage).

Yum! Don't you adore that tiny thyme adornment on top?
